Jan moved to northern California and married in 1964, settling in Foresthill where she worked managing the Public Utilities District office.

She was a member of the American Legion and a longtime volunteer for numerous charities.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Nelson. Hunting, fishing, birding, gardening and travels to the Baja Peninsula, Idaho, Canada and Alaska were amongst her favorite pastimes she shared with him for 31 years.

She is survived by her niece Sheryl Sundeen and great-niece Stacey Klyce of Tiburon, her step-grandson Theodore Nelson, Jr. of Kirkland, Wash., and her many cherished friends. Jan was lovingly regarded as the “Fire Mom” by all the fire guys at the Foresthill Fire Department.

A private ceremony will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers Jan has requested donations be made to Hospice, 11775 Education Street, No. 201, Auburn, Calif., 95602 or online at sutterauburn.org.
