Softball team has problem scoring
BONNERS FERRY — The Bonners Ferry softball fast pitch league is in full swing. A couple of bad weather cancellations has a make up doubleheader in store and a busy couple weeks to come.
The 2015 Badgers are a young team with only one senior this year.
“I am really excited for the future of this team, the girls all play well together and work as a team,” Badger coach Tomi Bateman said. “They are coachable and they just don’t give up.”
Although they struggled to score runs in Saturday’s doubleheader against Timberlake the Badgers were also able to keep the Tigers runs low.
GAME 1
Bonners Ferry 4, Timberlake 8
The Badgers battled to keep scoring low with opening pitcher sophomore, Nicole Donn sharing the mound with freshman Kadi Bateman. Catcher, sophomore Avery Lane played behind the plate during both games.
The first inning resulted in no runs by either team with two strike outs and one ground outs for each team.
The Tigers scored two runs in second inning.
No runs were scored by either team until the top of a long third inning when the Tigers scored six runs.
This streak ended with a swift double play from Donn’s pop catch in right field to freshman Kassy Skeen’s tag out at second base.
In the top of the fourth Badgers freshman Kadi Bateman scored the first run for the Badgers with an RBI by freshman Trinity Golder.
In the bottom of the sixth Skeen led off with a single. Bateman and junior Gabby Blackmore also both singles while Skeen ran for home for the first run of the inning. Golder hit a double sending home Bateman and Blackmore ending the inning at three runs for the Badgers, and ending game.

GAME 2
Badgers 3, Timberlake 6
Badgers Bateman and Blackmore gave Badgers early lead in the first inning of the second game by stealing home plate.
The Tigers came right back with three runs the bottom in the first.
The second inning ended with the Tigers scoring one run.
There was no scoring by either team until the top of fourth when Badger Jadyn Bennett put down a textbook bunt for a single. Donn brought Bennett in with an RBI.
In the bottom of the fourth the Tigers scored one run and another run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Badgers last at bat didn’t bring in runs and the game ended with Tigers winning 6-3.
“We played really well against a tough team,” Bateman said.

“We are a young team and never felt like we were out of these games, they kept working hard and I’m proud of how they held in. For me, I think if they keep working hard this team has a very bright future.”

GAME 1
Badgers 13, Priest River 14
The Badgers fought hard with Bateman pitching the entire game throwing seven strike outs. Badger freshman Jorryn Bennett impressed crowd with an over the fence home run. The game ended with a Priest River two-run home run.

GAME 2
Badgers 22 Priest River 10
Badgers came out like a storm hitting and pitching in the second game.
Golder went 5-5 at the plate and a three run in field home run. Pitching the entire game, Donn won the battle on the mound against Priest River pitchers who gave up 10 walks and 19 hits.

The Badgers have a busy schedule on the way and will play a league game against Priest River at home Tuesday April 21. The results will follow.
The Badgers league play continues today in Kellogg at 4 p.m., and again to make up a league doubleheader at home against Kellogg Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The Badgers last league game of the regular season will be against Timberlake at home Tuesday April 28, 4 p.m.
