Dorothy Rose Thompson Reed, 86

Dorothy Rose Thompson Reed, 86, of Anacortes, Wash., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 in Anacortes.

She was the second child born to Lloyd and Clara (Charles) Reed on July 16, 1928, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Dorothy was raised in Bonners Ferry and graduated high school in 1946.

She married George H. Thompson in 1948 and they moved to Sitka, Alaska, for a brief period of time before moving back to Bonners Ferry to raise their family. Dorothy enjoyed her work as a bookkeeper for several different businesses until opening the “Towne Shoppe” dress store with her dear friend and partner, Dorothy Smith.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Chapter AP PEO and Mirror Lake Ladies Golf Club. She had a wide and varied circle of friends enjoying bridge, knitting, reading and time on the Moyie River.

George passed away in 1979 and in 1991 Dorothy married John E. Reed and moved to Anacortes, Wash. She was blessed to enjoy 23 years with John. They spent time boating in the San Juan Islands, crabbing, bridge and traveling. Dorothy was a 57-year member of PEO and joined Chapter W in Anacortes upon her move here.

Dorothy is survived by her husband John, her children Steve (Carol) Thompson, Bonners Ferry, Kris (Mike) Rubert of Spangle, Wash., and David (Caroll) Thompson of Gardiner, Maine. She is also survived by stepdaughters Kathy (Russ) Pennington, Portland, Ore., and Barb (Calvin) Kubota, Juneau, Alaska, 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to PEO International or Soroptimist of Anacortes. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, Wash., and the San Juan Islands.
