Badgers beat Colville in West Valley opener
WEST VALLEY — The Lady Badgers turned up the defensive heat to flip a first quarter lead by Colville Dec. 29 in the opening round of the West Valley Tournament, defeating the Indians 53-36.
Colville was up 15-8 after the first quarter, but a solid man-to-man defense lead by Kirsten Oxford and Jaiden Everhart helped hold the Indians to 12 points in the second half, and only 12 points in the game for Colville’s lead scorer, Megan Lee.
“We had a slow start,” Coach Chris Chatburn said. “We had a good practice on Saturday but we were late getting to the game and were rushed to get ready. I don’t think we were warmed up.”
Kirsten Oxford lead the Badgers with 14 points and 4 steals in the game.
“She really keyed our defense in the second quarter,” Chatburn said.
Savannah Woods had 12 points in the game, and Savannah Woods had 11 to help push the Badgers over the top. Freshman Miranda Wenk had 6 points.
“Everhart and Wenk did a great job defending their shooter,” Chatburn said. “Lee got some shots but she had to work for them. They were the keys to that.”
Abby Davis had 4 points for the Badgers, while Abby Skeen, Regan Byers and Everhart each had 2 points in the game.
