Harold H. Newby , 91

Harold H. Newby died June 29, 2015, at his home in Spokane Valley, Washington at the age of 91.

A viewing will be held at Hennessy Funeral Home, 1315 N. Pines Rd., Spokane, WA on Monday, July 6, 2015, at 9:00 AM. Graveside service will be held at the Veterans’ Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington on Monday, July 6, 2015, at 10:30 AM.

Harold was born April 30, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Walter and Lulu Blossom Helms Newby. He was one of 11 children. His father was a Pentecostal Holiness preacher who taught Harold to be a very kind and gentle man. After Harold was saved he was determined to be obedient to God’s word and walk a straight path in all aspects of his life. He was kind and caring person who took care of his parents until their deaths.

Harold served in the US Army, 529th Signal Co. and saw action in Okinawa in WWII. After the war he was stationed in Korea.

On June 10, 1971, he married Alida R.Chatfield. Together they raised their six children and his four stepchildren. He had 36 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Harold and Alida were married for 44 good years. Alida remembers only one time that he lost his temper in all their married life.

Harold did various jobs during his life including painting contracting and US Postal Service. He was a good artist and an accomplished musician. Harold was an avid Bible student and church historian and loved to discuss theological questions.

In February 1984, he moved his family to Bonners Ferry, Idaho where they lived in several locations and raised wonderful gardens for their own use and for sale.

When his heath declined in January of 2013, Harold moved with Alida from Bonners Ferry to live with their son Daniel in Spokane Valley, Washington, where he resided until his death.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and six sisters. He is survived by his wife Alida and all of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
