Bakers Camp fire 75 percent contained

BONNERS FERRY — As of July 15, the Bakers Camp wildfire has grown to 49 acres and is 75 percent contained. Hot spots continue to persist in a small portion (about one acre) of the southeast corner of the fire, according to Mike Meier, Boundary County PIO.The area is being heavily monitored, but the possibility of spot fires across the containment line exist.

The number of firefighters is 64. Multiple air resources are being used on the fire, including helicopters supporting ground operations by dropping water to strengthen fire lines and cool hotspots in southeast corner.

The strategy is to continue with the mop up operation, focusing on southeast corner. Crews will reinforce the fire line in the southeast corner where terrain allows. Crews will also continue by extinguishing hot spots 100 feet from the line within the interior of the fire.

A temporary flight restriction over the fire is still in place. Stage Two fire restrictions are also now in place. Under these restrictions, campfires are not allowed anywhere. The fire started on June 29 and is lightning caused. The fire was reported on July 1. It is located 18 miles northwest of Bonners Ferry and about eight miles south of the Canadian border.
