BONNERS FERRY — The Bonners Ferry Gun Club had a very good turnout for Mother’s Day. Shooters were all gone by 2:30 as it was Mother’s Day. Thanks ladies for letting us play on your day.

We shot four rounds of 16 yard, four of handicap and two of doubles, then four shoot your-buddy out Annie Oakley’s with 17 shooters paying fourth place. What fun!

May 14 Bonners Ferry members Barb and Bart Camps and Lonny and Lynda Jelinek traveled to the Inland Empire Handicap Shoot in Spokane. This was an ATA Registered Shoot. Barb and Bart shot the whole 900 targets and I only shot 800. Barb won Lady II handicap Saturday outright and Sunday she had a 50 bird shoot off and won the Lady II Inland Empire Handicap score 92 x 100.

Bart won “D” class singles with a 194 x 200 and also high over all “D” class 800 targets all events. Kudos to both of them. They left Spokane Monday for Pocatello to shoot the Idaho State Shoot and the club was wishing them good luck so far from home on Memorial Day weekend.

I broke a pair of 97’s in the 16 yard event for 194 x 200 senior Vet Class and a 198 x 200 won. I guess I need more practice or concentration.

I would like to commend the Spokane Gun Club and the Inland Empire Trap Association for a very well run shoot with 48 squads approximately 20 shooters and a very good meal served Saturday night, Thank You. Bonners Ferry Gun Club is a member of the Inland Empire Trap Association.

One of the most pleasurable events was watching the shoot offs for the different events on Sunday, late afternoon. A shooter and a very good friend of Dave and Jill of the Log Inn Motel, Tom Stessens from Electric City, Wash. tied two other younger shooters with a 96 x 100 for the main handicap event. I have shot with Tom before and for 69 years of age he is a very good shot, as he proved in a 50 bird shoot off and won.

What a proud moment for Tom and all of us older shooters. I personally feel there is till hope it the trap shooting sport for us older than dirt shooters. Way to go, Tom.

Local shooters Barb and Bart camps traveled to Pocatello to participate in the Idaho State A.T.A. Trapshooting Championships held over Memorial Day weekend. They fired at 900 clay targets each, beginning on Friday, May 22 through 25.

Event one: Stu Welton singles; named after the 2014 State Champion with 200 x 200 and he also is the World Singles Champion with 675 straight at Sparta, IL last August. He is from Star, ID.

WOW! What a performance by our two Bonners Ferry shooters. I would like to express how proud I and all the club members are that Barb and Bart showed Idaho where Bonners Ferry is on the map, especially the southern part. I’ve always said if you can shoot a decent score at the B.F. Gun Club you can shoot good any where. Any one that is interested in clay target shooting is welcome Sunday’s from 10 a.m. to 2 or 3 p.m., depending on shooters how long we stay. After school is out we will start shooting Wednesdays again, late afternoons. Kids welcome. Remember gun safety at all times. New shooters, gun safety and coaching available at NO CHARGE.
