Badgers boys soccer upsets St Maries, advances to State

The BFHS boys soccer team defeated Priest River 4-to-2 during District Playoffs on Oct. 13. The Badgers were seeded second and played the third seeded team. The score at halftime was 1-to1 with Bonners Ferry playing evenly against Priest River, before finally dominating in the second half.

"Second half we fell back into our groove and played more like we should and could," said Coach Wayne Wilkerson, "I was pleased with our teamwork and determination in the second half. The senior and junior players made a real difference." Junior Daniel Struebe scored twice and junior Elijah Price and sophomore Raul Fernandez each scored one.

The Badgers played against St Maries on Oct. 15, following St. Maries's upset against Timberlake, and defeated them 3-to-1. St. Maries was the fourth seeded team.

St. Maries scored in the first five minutes, but Senior Tristin Howell evened up the score at 11 minutes with Junior Elijah Price following up with another goal two minutes later. Senior Tucker Dirks scored with 15 minutes left in the game. Senior goalkeeper Caleb Blackmore had six saves.

"Overall, we played very well," said Coach Wilkerson.

The boy's next game is against Community School from Sun Valley first-round in Caldwell this coming Thursday at 11a.m. Boise time.
