The Badgers baseball team had a busy but productive week, sweeping a pair of doubleheaders on Thursday and Saturday to put the team at 10-2 for the season

On Thursday, the Badgers took two from the Riversidee Rams in Spokane, highlighted by a no-hitter by pitcher Jesse Dunham in the first game in a 19-0 victory, and a pair of home runs by Caleb Gering, one in each game.

“Jesse just had a great game, just really good control,” said Head Coach Tom Turpin. “Caleb continues to see the ball really well, and is showing a lot of power this season.”

Turpin also praised the rest of the team, many of whom are also making a difference with a bat.

“We’ve got a lot of guys who are stepping up and getting key hits, showing power,” Turpin said. “Vince Bennett, Brady Bateman, Jesse Dunham, Kaleb Stockton, eveyone is being aggressive at the plate, and it’s paying off.”

Vince Bennett continues to pitch well from the mound, improving his record to 4-0 on the year with a win over the Riverside.

Saturday, the Badgers traveled to Colville, Washington, beating the Indians 12-8 and the Trial Hawks 10-1.

“It was a good weekend, the team played well,” Turpin said. “We had a lot of production at the plate, and the pitching kept the teams off balance.”

With the Badgers now standing at 10-2 on the season, they have one more non-conference game before they start Intermountain League play this weekend. The will play at Newport High School Thursday, then open league play Saturday at home with a doubleheader against Priest River.

“Saturday will be big, so we hope to get a lot of fans out to the field,” Turpin said. “We’re the defending league champs, and this is where it starts, so we would like to get as many people out there as possible.”

Saturday’s games against Priest River are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.by knocking in 5 runs going 3 for 4 with a double and triple.

Bonners Ferry hits – B. Bateman – 4 (2-3B), Bennett – 5 (2-3B), Dunham – 3 (2B, 3B), Gering – 2 (HR), N. Sabin – 2 (3B), Stockton, Gray, C. Sabin (2B), S. Bateman

GAME 2 – BONNERS FERRY   14   RIVERSIDE   7

The Badgers took game 2 behind junior pitcher Kevin Gray’s efficient pitching and 17 hits from the Badger bats.  Gering added to his home run total by blasting another 3 run home run in game two and a total of 7 RBI in the game.

Bennett continued his torrid hitting banging another 4 hits including a double in the 14 – 7 win.  Again, every player got a hit for the team and the top 4 hitters combined going 11 for 18.

The Badgers improved their overall record to 8-2 and travel to Colville to take on Colville and Trail, BC.  League play starts Saturday, April 16th at home against rival Priest River.  We encourage as many fans to show up and support the Badgers as they defend their 2015 League Title.  First game starts at 11:00am.
