Local families host Team Seattle

BONNERS FERRY -- Temperatures have been in the 90s this week, but they have not stopped 21 young bicyclists from riding across the country for a good cause.
Trinity Lutheran Church members opened their hearts and homes to the riders of 4k For Cancer on Friday, July 29, hosting a potluck and meet-and-greet with the bicyclists, and providing them housing and showers before they continued their journey.
Stopping in Bonners Ferry was a well-deserved break for the group.
The riders, aptly named Team Seattle, began their 70-day journey in Baltimore, Md., and have been riding nonstop to reach their destination of Seattle, Wash. The group arrived in Boundary County on the 55th day of their trip to raise support for and offer hope to those affected by cancer.
The charity 4k For Cancer is part of the Ulman Cancer Society For Young Adults.
It is a nonprofit organization that helps and provides direct support for cancer fighters, survivors and their loved ones, according to Skylar Marcoux, the coordinator for Team Seattle.
“They are great ambassadors for young adults in America,” said Denise Woodbury, a churchgoer who hosted two of the riders in her home.
