It was stated that they provide approximately 225 families in Boundary County, or 550 to 600 people, with food. 20-25 volunteer assist in providing this free service.
Organizers said that it takes about one to one and half hours to set up for the mobile food bank. In addtion, if people require assistance placing the items in personal vehicles, the volunteers are able to assist.
The free event is possible because Second Harvest procures food from beef farmers in Washington and Idaho, retail companies and growers attempting to draw interest to their new produce.
Occasionally, they receive donated items such as health products and light bulbs. According to a Second Harvest Mobile volunteer, the charge to the community per delivery truck has generously has been covered by local churches and several families.
When staff looked over Boundary County demographics, they recognized the need for four trucks a year.
Most areas that they serve get two trucks a year.
