| August 11, 2016 1:00 AM

BONNERS FERRY — Trustee Ron MacDonald provided an update on the Boundary County School District’s to-do list for summertime projects at Monday’s board meeting. Among the maintenance and repair tasks already completed are eight new energy-efficient windows for two classrooms at Boundary County Middle School, hallway maintenance, sidewalk improvements, a new drinking fountain and the purchase of a floor scrubbing machine.

The soccer field has undergone maintenance and is ready for the upcoming season at Bonners Ferry High School, new entry mats are in place inside the building, the wood shop sports a new door opener and the gym floor has been freshly refinished. Still to do this month before the start of the school year is the installation of new baseboards.

Up for bid

The board approved a request to add two new buses to the district fleet this year, and a request for bids will go out soon.

Additionally, trustees approved issuing an RFB for new roofing at both Valley View and Mt. Hall Elementary schools.

Drama Assistant

David Carpenter, drama instructor at BFHS, requested and received approval for funding a drama assistant who will help produce school plays. The board deferred his request for adding two extra plays this year due to lack of storage space for the additional sets, costumes and props that more productions would entail.

High School News

Incoming high school principal Kevin Dinning presented some changes he had made to both the BFHS Course Guide and the school handbook. He told the board about two changes to the curriculum. The first one is a reduction in the PE requirement from two semesters to one while the second reduces the World History course to a single semester.

Dinning also mentioned that changes are in store for class fees due to an ongoing lawsuit regarding free education.

Additionally, eplacement of the roofs at Valley View and Mt. Hall Elementary schools are set to go out for bid, as approved by the board of trustees at Monday’s meeting.
