The power of words

We apologize for our incorrect word choice when captioning last issue’s Pow wow photo. The word “costume” is inaccurate when describing the traditional regalia worn by the Pow wow dancers. Much of the regalia is centuries old and symbolizes each tribe’s cultural heritage, according to Jennifer Porter, vice chairwoman of the Kootenai Tribe.
