BONNERS FERRY — Families throughout the county are getting their children ready for back to school, and the Boundary County School District will be ready for them. The district recently announced fall scheduling for all students in the district.

Teachers will be preparing for the school year the final week of August, with a building workday on Monday, Aug. 29, In-service days Aug 30 and 31, and a building workday Friday, Sept 2.

The first day of school for students is Tuesday, Sept. 6. The district has a four-day school week with no school on Fridays. On weeks with a Monday holiday, students will attend three days.

Secretaries and principals will be in their buildings full-time as of Aug. 22. Students may register at any time during regular school office hours.

Transportation Supervisor Bil Irwin, 267-2425, can provide busing information, including pick-up/drop-off points and times. Buses will be in full operation and on their regular schedules on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Families that qualify for in-lieu of transportation reimbursement can pick up their applications at the school district office, 7188 Oak St., or contact Irwin.

Handbooks and free/reduced meal application forms will come home with students during the first week of school. The school calendars are available online and are also included in the handbooks for year-round reference. Extra copies are available at each school office. Information concerning food service is available from Food Service Director Tammy Schneider, 267-5519. The first day of meals will be Sept. 6. Student insurance forms are available for all those participating in sports at each of the school offices. Athletes must have insurance.

School entry age is explicit in Idaho Code. Kindergarteners must be five years of age on or before Sept. 1 on the school year in which the child is enrolling. First-graders must be six years of age by the first day of the current school year. However, a child who has completed a kindergarten program but is not six on or before Sept. 1 shall be able to enter first grade. The Idaho legislature has not allowed for any flexibility in the law.

Returning students already enrolled in BCSD need not pre-register. New students must have a copy of their birth certificates and immunization records.

Emergency school closure information is accessible at 267-8934. The district also utilizes an auto-call information line when there is an emergency school closure. The district’s website, www.bcsd101.com, also has closure information. Superintendent Gary Pflueger can be reached at 267-3146.
