100 year

Boy twins were born to Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Hawks, of Porthill, Monday at the home of Mrs. D’Arcy. One of the twins weighted 8 ½ pounds and the other 7 pounds. Mr. Hawks who is the Porthill drayman, arrived here Wednesday to make the acquaintance of the two youngsters. Tuesday evening the Misses Marie and Katherine Rath came to the city to see their new nephews.

Dan Herbert, a professional bronco buster, was arrested last Friday night by Sheriff Worley on the charge of violating the state prohibition laws. He was taken before Probate Judge O’Callaghan, waived preliminary examination and asked to be taken before the district judge at the earliest moment to receive his sentence. Sheriff Worley found nine quarts of whiskey in a blanket roll belonging to Herbert, who was found in a Great Northern box car and who claimed he was going to Spokane. Sheriff Worley found Herbert while looking through the freight train for 50 quarts of whiskey brought from Montana to Bonners Ferry. A movement is on foot in this city for the organization of a Boy Scout troop. A number of local citizens are interested in the movement and a large company of young boys are anxious to secure some one to act as a Scout Master. It is possible that O.C. Wilson will consent to act as Scout Master. W.E. Cody, in charge of the construction of the Bonners Ferry sewers, announced yesterday that work would start the first of the week repairing the damage done the sewer system in the lower part of town by the recent high water.

50 Year The Boundary County Television association reported Wednesday that installation work has been completed on translator facilities on Black mountain and signals from the three Spokane stations are now being received in most of the county on Channels 9, 11 and 13. The Bonners Ferry Little League ended a tremendous season on a fantastic note by winning a nine-team tournament last weekend in Cranbrook, scoring 27 runs on 28 hits and playing errorless ball in two games. The boys received one large team trophy and individual trophies for each player. The Herald was informed by telephone yesterday that an $18 million expansion program planned for 1968-69 by Pacific Gas Transmission company will include a $2 million compressor station in Boundary county.

A house fire that sent thick coils of billowing smoke over the North Bench area near Three Mile quickly ripped through a double-wide trailer last Thursday afternoon, leveling the home of Bobbi Solt just east of the Boundary County Airport.
