Idaho first lady prioritizes school safety

MERIDIAN — In her capacity as honorary chairperson, Idaho’s First Lady Lori Otter will launch the “See, Tell, Now!” campaign for the Idaho Office of School Safety and Security Aug. 23. She will also announce Gov. Butch Otter’s proclamation that September will herafter be designated as School Safety and Security Awareness Month throughout the state.

“See, Tell, Now!” is part of a multifaceted public awareness drive focusing attention on the importance of being watchful for and reporting unusual situations that could pose a safety or security threat in the public schools.

The Idaho School Safety and Security Act of 2016 established the Office of SChool Safety and Security to promote and enhance the well-being of the students attending the public educational institutions of Idaho.

Division of Building Safety Administrator C. Kelly Pearce and IOSSS Manager Brian C. Armes will join the first lady to provide more detail regarding what they have done and plan to do in support of the school safety program.

“See, Tell, Now!” includes a statewide public service campaign of television and radio public service announcements featuring Mrs. Otter. Program staff will also distribute colorful posters for placement in schools, a bright logo to identify the program and coloring books focusing on safety and security for Idaho first-graders.
