BOUNDARY COUNTY -- Three local Bonners Ferry High School teens participated in the Miss Teen of America Pageant in Caldwell, ID. Molly Flowers, Courtney Facha and Maya Roberts were the local participants. Roberts placed first runner up for 2016 Miss Teen Idaho.

“The Miss Teen of America Pageant was founded in 1983 by Mr. Warren Alexander, a former educator and pageant director, and designed to help young women reach their full potential. The scholastically based pageant recognizes young women ages 13-18 for their outstanding personal achievements, leadership abilities, and artistic, creative or athletic talents. Built upon a tradition of celebrating excellence in our country’s youth for more than 30 years, Miss Teen of America will set the standard for high achievement in academics, leadership, personal awareness and development. Miss Teen of Idaho Scholarship and Recognition Pageant was held June 24-26, 2016, in Caldwell, Idaho, according to the Miss Teen of America site.”

The girls applied online for the pageant and then went to the community to assist them with their goal. According to the Miss Teen of America official site, sponsorship assists with the entry fee.

Once at the pageant the girls were busy with opening production, choosing the required outfit in red or white, interviewing and perfecting personality projection and poise in formalwear. They were not required to have a talent, although there was an optional talent contest.

Pageant participant Courtney Facha stated, “I would like to thank my sponsors as well, Victor Rae at General Feed and Grain, Joy and Kyle Watts at Woody’s Gun and Pawn, Darrell Kerby at Pace Kerby, Mugsy’s and my family. It was an amazing experience and I had so much fun and meet some pretty amazing girls.”

Molly Flowers was able to attend and have an amazing experience.

"I would like to thank my sponsors Enviro Assessment, the Disabled American Veterans Association, Far North Outfitters, Carter County, Priceless Creations, Ana Wortley, Bonners Ferry Glass and Doc Bartlett, " stated Flowers

Flower said that she is grateful to have met a lot of amazing people, made plenty of great friends, and gained some much needed confidence. She is appreciative for those who made this experience possible.

According to Maya Roberts, “I wish to give special thanks to the Miss Teen of America organization, the judges, my sponsor (Postal Annex +), my parents (Skylar Roberts, Jeff and Sarah Roberts), and my grandparents (Jerry and Glenda Roberts).

I am so proud of all the girls who participated from each state, and of the Miss Teen of Idaho 2016 - Reagan Frost. I have been invited and am honored to accept representing Boundary County, Idaho for the 2017 Miss Teen Idaho Pageant! I am excited for what the future holds as I enter my Junior year. Always wear your crown.”
