Lady Badgers win two out of three games on the road

The Bonners Ferry girls basketball team went on the road last week, playing on Dec. 6, 8 and 10. They finished up the three-game run with a 43-26 win against Lakeland on Dec. 10.

This big win came after losing to Riverside (25-32) on Dec. 6 and then beating Cour d’Alene Charter (50-37) on Dec. 8.

Head coach Rich Feickert is happy to have all of his starters healthy and back in the game, and he says he is “looking forward to running on a few more cylinders in future games.”

The Lady Badgers were off to a hot start in their game against Riverside last Tuesday, but a sluggish second half cost them the game.

After putting up 13 in the first quarter alone, which would be the most points either team would score in a single quarter all game-long, the Badgers’ offense slowly ran out of gas, scoring a total of nine points in the second and third. By the fourth quarter, the offense seemed to have sputtered to a halt with only three points to show after eight minutes of play.

Miranda Wenk led the Badgers in scoring with nine points. Taylor Skeen and Kadi Bateman contributed seven apiece, with Bateman knocking down the only three-pointer of the night.

The Bonners Ferry team showed more stamina against Cour d’Alene Charter on Thursday evening, winning by 13.

The Badgers’ defense played strong all game, holding the Panthers to a single bucket in the first quarter. The teams were neck and neck in the following three quarters, but Cour d’Alene was never able to overcome that initial 11-point deficit. It wasn’t due to a lack of talent, however. Cour d’Alene’s Sandy Faulkner had a double-double, with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and the team lost their leading scorer, May Alexander, to an ankle injury only 30 seconds into the game, which helps to explain why they struggled so much in the first quarter.

Kasey Skeen led the Bonners Ferry team in scoring with 15 points in Thursday’s game.

The Lady Badgers’ third game on the road last week was against Lakeland, who has yet to win a game this season. Not surprisingly, the Badgers won by double digits (43-26) on Saturday, bringing their overall record to 3-2.

Kasey Skeen was Bonners Ferry’s leading scorer for the second game in a row, making six out of 11 shooting attempts for a total of 12 points. Brittany Spangler put up 10 and Nicole Donn contributed nine points on the night.

The Lady Badgers will take on Sandpoint in their first home game of the season on Dec. 16. Tip off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
