Elene 'Hep' Kiilsgaard Rock

Elene “Hep” Kiilsgaard Rock died in Las Vegas, Nev., on Jun 13, 2016, after a long illness.

Hep was born to Martha and Christian Kiilsgaard on the family farm in District 5 on June 10, 1936, and attended McKinley and Mt. Hall schools.

After graduating from Bonners Ferry High School, she went to Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Spokane. After graduation she went to Jacksonville, Fla., to work and then to Berkley, Calif.

She joined the U.S. Air Force in 1959 and served much of her time in Ankara, Turkey.

She married Jim Rock in 1963 and had three sons before moving to Las Vegas in 1971.

Hep worked at several hospitals in the Vegas area, mostly as an infection control nurse. After retirement, Hep and Jim spent summers on the Kiilsgaard place in District 5 and always enjoyed being back in the mountains.

She is survived by sister, Tedde Healy of Federal Way, Wash.; a brother, Dane of Little Rock, Ark.; two sons, Eric (Becky) and Steve (Kim), both of Las Vega; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; a son, Mark; two sisters, Marco Kiilsgaard and Joyce Hindman; and two brothers, Thor and Carl.

Services were held in Las Vegas on June 24 and she was in urned at the Boulder City Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
