The Pearl Theater announces choir camp
If you know children, age 8-18, who love to sing ... send them to camp.
For the first time, The Pearl Theater offers a summer choir and performance camp, Aug. 2-4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Theater officials encourage fun-loving singers with a passion for performance to join in all of the zany fun.
Camp provides instruction in the following areas:
n Sight reading: How to decode the black dots and squiggles
n Ear training: How to figure out if it really is the guy/girl next to you singing flat (and what to do about it)
n Stage presence: How to look like a natural onstage and carry off a mistake as if you planned it
n Breath control: How to sing from the diaphragm (blow up the water balloon without popping it)
The camp will be led by the “Swingin on a Star” Children’s Choir Director Autumn Mackert. She holds a double bachelor’s degree in vocal performance and music education. She is an award-winning classical vocalist and international performer, with jazz roots and a passion for Celtic music. She has over 12 years of experience, teaching in both private and public schools. Her choirs have been known for a love of artistic license and have won accolades at Northwest Festivals for their non-traditional arrangements of standard pieces.
Under her direction, concert patrons look forward to a variety of genres, styles and musicianship from choir members.
With the help of a youth grant, participants may attend the three-day choir camp for $30 per person. Students must sign up at The Pearl on the first day of camp and bring a lunch for each day.
The Pearl Theater is a non-profit organization that’s dedicated to fostering the performing arts throughout Boundary County.
