Kerttu named Certified Employee of the Month

Brenda Kerttu is May’s Certified Employee of the Month! Brenda teaches 7th grade science and agricultural science at Boundary County Middle School and she brings a hands on and active approach to the classroom. She is an invaluable team member and helps support both her grade level team and also the science department as a whole. Brenda actively engages in school wide development and growth and assists in any area she can.

Brenda has a very active approach to teaching. Just today she has brought in a guest speaker to discuss various reptiles such as snakes and geckos, and yes, there were snakes and geckos in the classroom for the students to see and touch. She is committed to lessons that are project based which allow the students to be engaged when learning science and you will often find her students completing labs. She loves to get students in the real world when possible and has put together several field trips for her classes. Brenda is also a great team player. She can be seen at any grade level or science department meeting assisting in any way she can. This year one was of turmoil in our 8th grade science class but thanks in part to her generous time and mentoring, a disaster has turned into a positive experience in a science class which is not hers. She often discusses student concerns with her 7th grade team and graciously takes steps to help students as needed and discussed.

Brenda is committed to help our school grow. She is active on school committees and helps our school by offering ideas for improvement where needed. She was one of the first teachers to reply when asked if we could create new electives for our students. Out of that process she created one of the more popular new electives, agricultural science. Brenda is an amazing teacher and colleague. She will go out of her way to help any person in need and spends a lot of time trying to improve the school as a whole. Boundary County Middle School is fortunate to have such an individual as part of our team. Congratulations Brenda for being selected as May’s Certified Student of the Month as you are very deserving.
