Takao Butterfield

| March 31, 2016 3:00 AM

Takao Butterfield passed away on February 24, 2016 at his home in Moyie Springs, Idaho at the age of 66.

Takao’s journey in life began on September 30, 1949 in Okinawa, Japan.  Throughout his life, Takao was a free spirit; roaming from place to place, always looking for his next adventure.  At the age of 14, Takao moved to the U.S., to the Isle of Palms in South Carolina.  In 1971 he went into the army as a medic; serving at the Presidio in San Francisco, then to South Korea, and back to South Carolina where he was honorably discharged in 1974.  Takao’s easy going demeanor took him on many travels in his life.  From California, to Oregon, to Northeast Washington in the Colville area.  Takao wore many “coats”.  In 2003 he moved to Riggins, ID.  There he worked for friends at an outfitting, hunting, fishing and rafting resort.  In 2009 he moved to Moyie Springs, ID where he worked in many trades.  Handyman, gardener, tree farmer, carpentry, and many others.

Takao’s true passion though, was his artwork.  He mastered the ability to see the beauty in everything, even when others couldn’t see it.  Takao’s art work was a thing of beauty.  Everything he created was unique, no piece was ever the same.  From paintings and drawings, to carvings and woodwork.  He strived for perfection, and wouldn’t settle for anything less.  Takao definitely had his own unique style, and he loved many things.  Music, dancing, the outdoors, the ocean, all of the simple things in life.  He left an impression each and every person he ever came across.  Takao hold a special place in all of our hearts.  We all smiled a little more and laughed a little harder because Takao was in our lives.  He is greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  Your spirit soars free now; may you find beauty, peace, joy, and laughter in all of your travels.

Takao is survived by a daughter, Shemaia Harper of Colville, WA., two sons, Tom Prior of Kettle Falls, WA; Ben Prior of Coeur d’Alene, ID; a few grandchildren, two sisters, Linda Jones of Gaston, SC; and Juli Robinson of DeRidder, LA.  A celebration of Takao’s life will be held at a later date.
