Lady Badgers perfect in league, will host districts

The Lady Badgers softball team has finished Intermountain League play with a perfect record. Here are the highlights from their last three games.

The Badgers softball team traveled to Kellogg Saturday to play a double header.

GAME 1 Bonners Ferry 6 Kellogg 2

In the first game Kadi Bateman pitched seven innings earning her 7th straight win in league play.

It was a scoreless game until the top of the fourth when Badger Jadyn Bennett scored on a Chantelle Coon RBI.

The Wildcats weren’t able to score in the fourth.

The Badgers and the Wildcats each scored a run in the sixth bringing a tight 2-1 game going into the seventh inning.

In the seventh inning Jorryn Bennett bunted in Kassy Skeen, Golder knocked in Bateman and Jo Bennett with a double and Coon knocked in Golder ending the inning with four runs.

held Kellogg scoreless in bottom seventh to win the game.

GAME 2 Bonners Ferry 23 Kellogg 5

With the pitcher’s mound split between Jadyn Bennett and Hailey Hunter, the game would end after five innings. Bennett gaining the win and Hunter the save.

The Badgers scored 5 runs in the first. Badgers scored another 16 runs, which included Blackmore stealing home base twice, and 3 runs knocked in by an over the fence home run by Jadyn Bennett. Kellogg was able to put up 5 runs in the bottom of the third.

Another two Badger runs crossed the plate in the top of the fifth. Kellogg did not score at the bottom of the fifth ending the game.

Badgers 6, Timberlake 2

The Badgers softball team ended Intermountain League play undefeated, in an 8th inning victory in Timberlake Tuesday beating the Tigers, 6-2.

The Badgers quest to host IML 3A Disctricts was achieved with an IML league record of 9-0.

The Badgers delivered in the first inning with an RBI by Jorryn Bennett sending Kassy Skeen home. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when the Tigers answered with a run to tie the score.

The defensive battle between the rivals continued without a score until the bottom of the fifth when the Tigers tied up the game 1-1.

The game would remain scoreless at the bottom of the seventh inning sending it into an extra inning.

At the top of the eighth the Badgers rallied with five runs on four hits. A typical tie breaking inning placed Jorryn Bennett on second base then first batter Trinity Golder hit a single sending Jo Bennett to third. gold stole second and Jadyn Bennett hit a double sending in Jo Bennett and Golder for 2 runs.

Gabby Blackmore walked, then Chantelle Coon hit a single. Avery Lane followed with a single. Maecie Liermann with a sacrifice RBI sent Blackmore home. Bateman hit an RBI and brought in Coon for the fifth run.

Timberlake scored 1 run at the bottom of the 8th.

Kadi Bateman pitched for 8 innings backed by superior defense and ended in a successful third game sweep of the Tigers in league.

“What a way to end the regular season,” said head coach Tomi Bateman. “I am so proud of this team. Their love and dedication to softball has been proven on the field this season. From amazing defense to phenomenal batting and pitching this team has it all. They have found themselves in some tough situations but we’re able to dig deep and get the job done. What an accomplishment to the BFHS softball’s first league champion and to do it undefeated in league.”

The Badgers play host to 3A Districts starting with the Kellogg Wildcats, Monday at. 4 p.m.
