Clarification

The Herald would like to clarify that a quote was published in the Oct. 20 story, “Mennonite Church faces new sex abuse suit”, and was made by the Mennonite Church USA: “urging congregations ‘to bring to light all that has been hidden too long in the shadows,’ and calling sexual abuse a ‘cancer within the church that we need to expose.’”

Further research shows that the defendants, the local Mt. View Mennonite Church and its parent organization, the Kansas-based Church of God in Christ Mennonite, have no relationship with the Mennonite Church USA, as they are a separate denomination of the greater Anabaptist sect of Christianity. Therefore, any views expressed by the Mennonite Church USA, including their quote published in the Oct. 20 story, may not be shared by either Mt. View Mennonite Church or the Church of God in Christ Mennonites.
