Julia Marie (Morton) Hankey

| November 23, 2016 10:17 AM

Julia Marie (Morton) Hankey, 96, went home to be with the Lord and Savior on Nov. 16 at Boundary Community Hospital, surrounded by four of her five children, and also by phone from her youngest son, Paul, who resides Hawaii. Service will be held at Mountain Springs Church on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m. A potluck will be held following the reception at Naples fire hall.

Julia was born July 20, 1920 in Bottineau, N.D. to William and Mae Morton. She was the third of four children. The family moved to Boundary County and homesteaded just north of Dawson Lake, near Meadow Creek – where she grew up and went to school.

She worked at the Les Wyman Ranch, where she met and married Fred Martin Williams. They had two girls: Patsy Mae and Evelyn Marie Williams. Martin was a logger and self employed. They moved around a lot, living in Idaho, Washington, and Montana. The marriage ended and Julia moved back to Idaho with the girls. She worked briefly in a Chinese restaurant in Bonners Ferry and taking care of Lilly Hanson. She enjoyed working there because Frank and Lilly were nice people and the kids worked hard, but also had fun. Julia took over the house work — cooking, cleaning, etc., until Lilly was well and then she moved to Naples.

In Naples, Julia worked at the school and also had a cleaning job. That is where she was swept off her feet by the love of her life, Donald Roger Hankey, whom she married Oct. 8, 1954. They bought a house next to the Naples mill and had a family of three children: Frank Donald, Paul Albert and Christine Ann Hankey.

Julia loved her family so much, loved holding her grandbabies and enjoyed her friends! Julia was loved by everyone who knew her, but had a dear, special lifetime friend, Amy Anderson, who was a devoted friend for sixty years! Julia loved cooking Sunday dinners where everyone was always welcome. She loved music, dancing, flowers, gardening, sewing, picnics, camping and fishing. She lived her last eight years in the care of Ace Elder Care in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Julia is survived by Patsy (Williams) Humphrey and Evelyn (Williams) Haase, both residing in Kennewick, Wash. Frank and Diane Hankey, Ponderay, Idaho. Paul Hankey, Hawaii. Christine and Timothy Ramirez, Naples, Idaho.

Julia has 16 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 28 great, great grandchildren!

Julia was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mae and William Morton, her two sisters, Helen Vaughn and Wilma (Billy) Cassidy, her brother, Roy Morton, and her husband, Donald Roger Hankey.

Feel free to come and share in the life of Julia Marie (Morton) Hankey, whom we were so blessed to know and love. She will always be the rock of our family and greatly missed.
