Community Choir starts rehearsals on Tuesday

| October 6, 2016 1:00 AM

A 40-year Bonners Ferry tradition continues when the Bonners Ferry Community Choir starts rehearsals Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bonners Ferry.

Concerts will be Friday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec.18, at 3 p.m. Barb Nelson, accompanist, and Vicki Blake Thompson, conductor join forces once again to lead the choir’s annual Christmas concert. This 60-65 voice choir is open to all singers high school age through senior citizens. There are no auditions and there is no cost to singers. Students middle school age and younger may also sing if accompanied by a singing parent.

Rehearsals will be held every Tuesday night starting Oct. 11 until the concerts. Dress rehearsal is Dec. 15.

The concert this year centers on the nativity story in three parts: the “Cry for Light and Peace”, the “Coming of the Christ Child”, and the “Contemplation/Celebration” of what that means for us today. The music is, as usual, highly varied in musical styles. The program incorporates familiar carols like “Silent Night”, “Angels from the Realms of Glory”, the “Holly and the Ivy”, the “Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy”, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”, and new Christmas music as well. The choir sings in four to eight parts.

Anyone wishing to sing in this year’s concert should simply come to the first rehearsal Tuesday, Oct. 11.
