St. Maries Lumberjacks cut down Bonners Ferry

| October 6, 2016 1:00 AM

ST. MARIES — Senior Issac Lavala hauled in a seven yard touchdown pass from Kaleb Stockton during a strong first half of play, but the Badgers ran out of gas in the second half of a 60-8 loss to St. Maries in nonleague football last Friday night.

The Badgers (0-6) moved the ball well in the first half, and trailed 24-8 at halftime.

The Lumberjacks’ defense held the Badgers to 5 yards of offense in the second half, recorded two safeties and returned an interception for a touchdown in the nonleague win.

“We had a bunch of missed tackles in the first half and they had 165 yards in the first half,” St. Maries coach Craig Tefft said. “We did a better job of getting back to the fundamentals and did a good job of swelling up on them in the second half.”

Dakota Wilson and Caleb Brown finished with 55 yards rushing and two touchdowns each, and Kiefer Gibson threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns for St. Maries (6-0), which travels to Grangeville next Friday to open Central Idaho League play.

Bonners Ferry travels to Timberlake to open Intermountain League play on Friday.
