Badgers continue to struggle this season
SPIRIT LAKE — The Bonners Ferry football team has struggled to win a game all season and their struggle continued against Timberlake on Friday, October 7.
This particular loss might sting a bit more, however, since the away game represented one of team’s best opportunities of the season to stack one in the Wins column. The two schools had the same record (0-6) going into the game, and it seemed like a good match-up in an otherwise tough schedule for Bonners Ferry.
It was obvious by their play in the first quarter that both teams were hungry for a win. Timberlake punched one into the endzone first, but the Badgers offense responded soon enough with Nick Saban running in a five-yard touchdown. Unfortunately, they missed the extra point. This would be the last scoring opportunity of the game for Bonners Ferry.
Their defense was able to shut out the Tigers in the second and third quarters, but turnovers cost the Badgers the game. Two interceptions were returned for touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone, bringing the final score to 28-6.
While it was not the Badgers’ best showing, their running back, Saban, had a solid game, carrying the ball 21 times for a total of 172 yards.
