Learning the basics

| October 13, 2016 1:00 AM

Do you remember being taught basic gun safety in school? I know some of you remember bringing your rifles to school so you could hunt on the way home. Do you know who the instructor is here and who the students are? If you have an answer, please email doyouremember@meadowcrk.com. If you would like to stay anonymous, just let us know.

Last week we shared a picture of the South Boundary Fire Station, in Naples, under construction. Earl Berwick recognized the building. If you look close, you can see the small church and motel in the background. According to the “History of Boundary County Volume 1,” the tourist court (motel) was built by the Mackey brothers in the early 1930s. They were the most modern cabins in North Idaho at the time.

The students of Evergreen School were also identified by Jim Barton. Thank you, Jim, as your answer verifies the others and makes sure we get our history noted correctly.

Your Boundary County Historical Society and Museum, 7229 Main, Bonners Ferry, Idaho sponsors this column. During the winter, the Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. To help maintain the buildings, a small entrance fee is charged at the door. It is $2 per person or $5 per family. There is no charge for those under 14-years-old or for the Boundary County Historical Society members. Visit the website at www.boundarycountymuseum.org for a list of the latest events; follow us on our Facebook page; or give us a call at 208-267-7720.

The Kootenai Valley Rifle Teams will be starting practice this week. If you would like to learn more about the sport of precision shooting, the juniors (age 12 to 20) will meet on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m., with the older shooters gathering on Wednesdays at the same time. If you would enjoy a little competition with your pistol, that group meets on Tuesdays. Come to the indoor range on Hwy 2 to learn more. See you soon!
