Badgers drop two games in a row at state

TWIN FALLS — The Bonners Ferry boys soccer team lost both of their games last week at the state tournament in Twin Falls. They returned home on Friday, Oct. 21.

The Badgers’ first game was against the Community School Cutthroats on Thursday, Oct. 20. In that game, the Cutthroats scored first but Elijah Price tied it up with an unassisted goal towards the end of the first half. The Community School scored a goal to take the lead sometime around the 60th minute and the Badgers were unable to come back from the 2-1 deficit. Coach Wilkerson told the Herald after the game: “I thought we really played well. It was a hard-fought, physical game against a very talented Community team.”

With that loss, the Bonners Ferry team entered the consolation bracket along with teams from Wendell, American Falls and Weiser high schools. They went up against Weiser on Friday afternoon and lost 3-0.

According to Coach Wilkerson, the Weiser team was a bit too fast for the Bonners Ferry boys. Weiser’s talented middies and forwards led the team offensively, firing shots on goal all game-long.

Badgers’ keeper Seth Bateman had a great showing with double-digit saves. He couldn’t block them all, however, and the Badgers failed to capitalize on their offensive opportunities.

Weiser went on to beat Wendell on Saturday in yet another shutout, winning the consolation game 4-0.
