Do You Remember - School's Open Next Week

| September 1, 2016 1:00 AM

School will be opening next week. Can you identify this school building? Do you know where it is located? Do you know what it was used for? If you have an answer, please email doyouremember@meadowcrk.com. If you would like to stay anonymous, just let us know.

Dave Peterson shared this story about last week’s picture of the Katka School. “This is the Fred and Lenna Ellis Ranch on Katka. My grandmother, Blanche Petty, taught school there in 1927. Blanche met and married Lenna’s brother, Victor Schell, in Bonners Ferry. The area would later be known as the Bill Ellis Ranch. Gramma Ellis lived there until she moved to town.” History tells us that the original farm was built in 1916. The Myers bought the home in 1979. For more information about the area, you can read about it in the “History of Boundary County Vol. 1” page 271.

Your Boundary County Historical Society and Museum, 7229 Main, Bonners Ferry, Idaho sponsors this column. During the summer, the Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday. To help maintain the buildings, a small entrance fee is charged at the door. It is $2 per person or $5 per family. There is no charge for those under 14 years old or for the Boundary County Historical Society members. Visit the website at www.boundarycountymuseum.org for a list of the latest events; follow us on our Facebook page; or give us a call at 208-267-7720.

First Free Saturday is happening again! On Saturday, September 3rd, there will be no entrance fee charged, thanks to the Friends of the Museum. So take the kids on one last adventure before school starts. See you then!
