Constitution Day

event announced

There is a Constitution Day event at the Bonner County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Sept. 17.

This year marks 229 years since the signing of the Constitution. As Benjamin Franklin was leaving the Constitutional Convention, he was asked, “What kind of government did you give us?” He responded, “A republic, if you can keep it.”

John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

Come see how virtue, faith and freedom were principles our republic was founded upon and how we can apply these to remain a free people.

Come be part of the Northwest Freedom Festival on Sept. 17, at the Bonner County Fairgrounds.

Can we keep it?

Yours for the republic,

STEVE TANNER

Empty buildings give downtown a sad look

After reading the Herald’s article on Main Street Committee my first thought. Has anyone realized how the empty buildings and store fronts are one of the detractions for downtown? They give the appearance of a sad little town.

Draw business to fill these empty buildings and it will add to the life of downtown.
