| September 15, 2016 1:00 AM

A golden opportunity is coming up for those who enjoy history, community and the wonderful landscape of the Porthill area. Boundary County Museum in partnership with the Porthill Community Cemetery Association has organized a historical walking tour of the Porthill Cemetery, followed by a visit to the old Houck farmhouse on the Farm to Market Road.

The tour highlights some of the county’s founders and pioneers and interesting headstones and monuments, according to the Boundary County Historical Society. The event will be held Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. Knowledgeable and entertaining guides will provide participants with interesting facts and stories during the tour.

The Houck farm is a working operation comprised of approximately 1,600 acres, according to an article in Gem State Producer. The original farmhouse, built by the Dillin family in the 1920s, is now a museum, complete with some of the original furnishings and period photographs.

Those who wish to sign up for the tour should pre-register with the museum. The fee is $5 per person. Participants should gather at the Porthill Cemetery gates prior to 1 p.m. Sept. 24.
