Valley View Elementary School is off to a great start with 75 new faces this year. The team at VVES is utilizing every classroom and has more support in place to keep all learners engaged. Furthermore, the students and staff are excited and getting acquainted with each other daily. There is so much energy and joy within our building it really is a fun place to be this time of year.

The construction project at the front of the school is nearing the completion stage and the new paved road, sidewalk, fencing, and crosswalk area look great. Most importantly this newly constructed area helps maintain a safe atmosphere for our students before and after school. Thank you to the city of Bonners Ferry, KG &T Septic, and BCSD 101 maintenance supervisor, Bob Overman, for all their hard work and dedication thus far.

At VVES we appreciate parents/guardians in the building being a part of their child’s education. Please understand that we would love to have more visitors for lunch or help with a field trips whenever convenient. In addition, if any parents/guardians would like to volunteer at VVES we would ask that you get fingerprinted and fill out the necessary paperwork to ensure that students are always in a safe environment. Thank you for understanding and being a part of the education at VVES.

Mrs. Petesch, our wonderful PE teacher would like to communicate that North Idaho Mountain Sports Education Fund, also known as NIMSEF is offering Schweitzer Mountain scholarships this year again. They sponsor children aged 7 to 17, based on economic need and the deadline is Oct. 31. If you are interested in this scholarship please talk with Mrs. Petesch or look for the information on the PE website.

As educators we all understand that reading to young children is extremely imperative to their immediate success, but also can shape their future. With that said, I would highly recommend to all parents/guardians that they try and read a minimum of 15 minutes a night. It could be Gary Paulsen books on the outdoors, magazines such Sports Illustrated, or just about anything a child enjoys. What is important is that reading is taking place both in school and at home.
