BOUNDARY COUNTY — Community involvement was key to the community being named a finalist for a $250,000 High Five Idaho grant, said Bonners Ferry Mayor David Sims.
“Voting can be done once a day, every day,” said Sims. “It needs to show that the community is behind what we are trying to accomplish.”
The Facebook voting for the top seven ends Sept. 30. The top three cities will advance, and on Oct. 17 a final city will be named. Currently, Plummer, Caldwell, Plummer, Caldwell, Coeur d'Alene, Homedale, and Sandpoint are running against Bonners Ferry.
According to Sims, the grant winner will have six months of technical assistance to the community partners to see what their town would most benefit from. The community partners include: Boundary Parks and Recreation, Boundary Community Hospital, Kootenai Tribe, City of Moyie, Boundary County School Dist. 101, GROW, BOCO,Village Project, 4H, and University of Idaho extension.
According to Lisa Ailport, AICP, city planner of Bonners Ferry, another object of the grant is to match the funds with another grant.
The goal behind this grant is create a healthier environment to reduce childhood obesity. Children are the future of this community. Our community is a finalist for a transforming grant.
