The Northwest Bellydance Company of Spokane, Wash., is teaming up with Aurora Fox Tribal and Safar to present Soiree Orientale on Oct. 8 from 7-9 p.m. The show combines cultural dances, modern production and a dose of imagination in the troupe’s signature blend of entertainment. Dances include classical belly dance, tribal fusion, Bollywood, modern adaptations of folkloric dances, and feature both recorded music and live accompaniment by Safar. They are teaming up and aim to take the dance to new heights by producing high-quality entertainment presented to the public.

“Our show is for the whole family, and appeals to a diverse audience.” says Nefabit Hinton, director of Northwest Bellydance. “We feature mostly classical bellydance and tribal fusion. Belly dance as we know it has a vast history, with influences reaching across the Middle East, Mediterranean, North Africa and Balkan mountains. We aim to present an exciting night out that is cultural and educational as well as entertaining and unique.”

Since 2010, Northwest Bellydance Company has produced unique theatrical productions in Spokane and, earlier this year, the company performed Arabesque in Bellevue, Wash. The mission of the professional dance troupe is to bring belly dance to the public through art, education and entertainment. They aim to develop new standards of achievement for the art form as a whole and redefine the spectrum in which belly dance is perceived. By bringing bellydance to the theater and using strong production elements such as choreography, set design, storytelling and more, they hope to inspire audiences.

The company is comprised of around 20 dancers, including 4 principal dancers, as well as two live percussionists.

Tickets are $16 in advance, $18 at the door, and $12 for students, and they may be purchased at Bonners Books and Mountain Mike’s. The Pearl Theater is a non-profit organization, dedicated to fostering the performing arts throughout Boundary County for the education, entertainment, and inspiration of the community.
