Badgers get swept by Bulldogs; then sweep Trail, BC

The Bonners Ferry Badgers baseball team began their home season with two losses from the Sandpoint Bulldogs last Friday. They bounced back on Saturday to sweep the Trail, BC Hawks to improve their early record to 3-2 for the season.

Friday - Game #1 – Sandpoint – 9 Bonners Ferry – 8 (8 innings)

Sandpoint scored a run in the top of the eighth inning on an error from the Badger third baseman to earn the extra inning victory.

The Badgers were down early 5 – 0 after the top of the third but took the lead 8 – 6 after four innings. The Bulldogs scored two more in the top of the 6th inning to tie the game led by Trey Flint’s RBI single. In the top of the 8th inning, Sandpoint scored with two outs to regain the lead. Bonners Ferry had the tying run on third with two outs when the last out was recorded.

Brady Bateman took the loss on the mound. He also collected two hits as well as Nick Sabin and Chris Sabin.

Game #2 – Sandpoint – 12 Bonners Ferry – 0 (5 innings)

Bonners Ferry could hardly throw a strike in the game and Sandpoint capitalized on 9 walks and 7 errors to win the second game 12-0 in 5 innings.

Sandpoint only had four hits in the game to Bonners Ferry’s two hits by Seth Bateman and Chris Sabin. Shayne Walker took the loss for the Badgers.

Saturday - Game #1 – Trail – 0 Bonners Ferry – 2

The Badgers bounced back from their earlier losses on Friday to Sandpoint to record a 2-0 win over the Trail Hawks on Saturday. Senior Kevin Gray pitched an excellent game going the distance striking out seven and walking only one batter.

The Badgers scored their two runs in the bottom of the 4th inning when Shayne Walker hit an RBI groundout and Gray hit a RBI double to right field.

Saturday - Game #2 – Trail – 1 Bonners Ferry – 9

The Badgers took the second game against Trail 9 – 1 with an efficient pitching performance from both Chris Sabin and Mason Eby. The Badgers scored one in the first, two in the 3rd and 5th innings and four in the 6th inning improve their record to 3-2.

Brady Bateman, Seth Bateman, Nick Sabin, Chris Sabin and Seamus Ryan all got singles with Shayne Walker hitting a double to the left field fence.

Bonners Ferry plays an away double header at Chewelah on Tuesday and hosts Riverside on Thursday, April 6, in Bonners Ferry.
