Marian Francis Morse-Vanderheyden

Marian Francis Morse-Vanderheyden was born in Portland, OR on Nov. 22, 1924 to Edward H. and Blanche Bowman Sparks. She was the older of two children. Her brother was Hal C. Sparks of Bainbridge Island, Wash. Marian survived her daughter, Nancy K. Burton, who passed away in 2002. Marian has two surviving daughters: Becky S. Lamphier (Carl) of Coeur d’Alene and Leslie D. Ashby of Spokane, Wash.

Marian grew up in the Portland area and attended Roosevelt High School and Beaverton High School, graduating in 1942. Marian worked for the Portland Army Air Base and Portland General Electric as a secretary; and then for the Portland Oregonian in the circulation department until 1952. She married Daniel E. Morse in Portland in 1946. They moved to Seattle and she worked for Boeing Aircraft Engineering as a secretary. They later moved to El Paso, Texas in 1953 where Daniel was a Border Patrol Agent. They moved to St. Paul, MN in 1955, then to Bonners Ferry, Idaho in 1956. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1967. In 2005, Marian moved to College Place, WA to live with her daughter, Leslie. She then moved to Spokane in 2007.

Marian is survived by her daughters, Becky and Leslie; three grandsons: Lenny Graupman (Shelly) of Kirkland, WA, Michael Graupman of Boise, ID, and Daniel Burton of Butte, Mont.; four great grandsons: Theodore “Teddy” Frietas of Spokane, Wash, Elijah Graupman of Kirkland, Wash, and Daniel and Dakota Graupman of Coeur d’Alene; and two nephews: Steve Sparks and Jay Sparks.

Marian worked in Sandpoint, Idaho as a hostess for the Edgewater Inn. She was a president of the American Legion, Post 55 and served one term as a District President for the American Legion. She was active in the North Idaho Heart Assn. and was a chairman for the Campfire Girls.

Marian enjoyed her club work, reading, walking in the woods, travel in Europe, her family, and many friends. Marian will be missed by all of her family and friends.

A viewing will be held at 10 AM on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Yates Funeral Home – Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. 4th St., Coeur d’Alene with a funeral service to follow at 11 AM. Marian will be buried at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens with a graveside service following the funeral.
