BONNERS FERRY— The last weekend in July marked Boundary County’s All Class Reunion. The Bonners Ferry High School class of 1963 hosted a silent auction on Friday July 21, and the proceeds from that and donations from the members of the class went to our local Boundary County Museum.

“As a class, we have always tried to make contributions back to the community,” said Dan Meddock, part of the class of 1963. “We tried to do something that contributes to the community as a whole.”

Meddock presented a check for $1,700 to Sue Kemmis, curator for the library. Kemmis went to the local Boundary County schools and during the 50 year anniversary party for Evergreen Elementary School, she met Clara Hewett, who was a teacher at Evergreen.

After her passing, Ted Hudlow received Hewett’s scrapbooks, and presented them to Kemmis for the library on Saturday, July 22. Hewett’s pump organ is also at the museum, and Kemmis doesn’t know how to play it very well, but she likes to play songs such as ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’ on it for the children when they come into the museum.

The class of ‘63 first began donating time and funding about four years ago. They have donated $1,700 to Burlington Northern and have volunteered time to the Boundary County Fairgrounds and the Boundary County Community Restorium over the years. The check this year is the second one they have donated to the museum, and they hope to continue to contribute back to the community every year.

During the class of 1963’s 50 year reunion in 2013, they donated a check for $1,800 to the museum and that donation went to the gazebo and railroad display on the back side of the building. The donation this year will be going to a yet undetermined project.

There have been other classes, people, and companies, such as BNSF, that have also donated over the years so that the museum is able to display our local history in the best ways possible.
