Boston's Honeysuckle comes home to The Pearl

| August 31, 2017 1:00 AM

Longtime resident Holly McGarry returns to North Idaho with her Boston band, Honeysuckle, on Friday, Sept. 8, 7 p.m. at The Pearl Theater. Their “Idahome” tour offers music lovers a rare, intimate venue to hear the trio’s “homespun folk” act as they tour the country from coast to coast. Doug Bond returns as their opening act, and the doors open at 6 p.m..

Honeysuckle, comprised of Holly McGarry, Benjamin Burns, and Chris “Gooch” Bionarz, combines older instrumentation with modern effects and instrumentation. McGarry, who attends Berklee College of Music, has performed since the age of thirteen. She says her influences include The Beatles, Janis Joplin, and Harold’s IGA (hey…we know that place), alongside several of The Pearl’s recent acts, including John Craigie and Shook Twins.

Honeysuckle headlines in the Northeast, playing alongside bands such as The Ballroom Thieves, The David Grisman Sextet, Boy & Bear, The Novel Ideas, Grey Season, and Honeyfoot. They earned the title of Converse Rubber Tracks Artist in 2015. In 2016, they played Lollapalooza and CMJ in New York City. New nominations include Red Line Roots’ 2016 Big Reds, Best Folk Act of the Year, Best Album, and Best Americana/Roots Artist of the Year at the annual Boston Music Awards.

As a recipient of Club Passim’s Iguana Music Grant, Honeysuckle recently released a new full-length album to a sold-out crowd. Also available is their debut EP, “Arrows,” released in 2015.

Tickets are available now: $12/Adv, $15/Door, and $5/Students, at Mountain Mike’s, Bonners Books, online www.thepearltheater.org, or by phone 208-610-2846.
