Charlotte Rae (Carter) Perin passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at Alderwood Manor in Spokane, Wash. She was surrounded by her children and mourned by the nursing home staff who had come to know her well over the years.
“Char” was born on April 16, 1941, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Jake and Edith Carter. She was raised in the area but lived in Spokane for much of her life. An animal lover, Charlotte bred and showed Great Danes, including Blue Ribbon winner “Tigan.” Once honored by the American Women’s Business Association, Charlotte also owned and managed several successful businesses over the years. Throughout her life, Charlotte (or “Mama”) was known for her kind heart, bingo skills, and legendary Parker House Rolls.
Charlotte is survived by her husband, Leslie S. Perin; her siblings, Lavelle, Jerry, Vicky, Jim, Buddy, and their families; her son, Ken Miles; step-children Thea, Steph, Charlie, and Cindy; and her “Kazemba Kids”, David (Liz), Brian (Maggie), Kayla (Andy), and Kara (Kevin). Charlotte was “Grandma Char” to Jon, son of Ken; as well many others and is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren who lit up her world with their visits and handmade artwork. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Edith (Wood) Carter; sister Carolyn (Carter) Wiggins; and daughter, Lisa Kay (Miles) Kazemba.
A celebration of life will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at Millwood Presbyterian Church in Spokane Valley. A reception will follow at a family member’s home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Spokane Humane Society, where two of her treasured friends, Peanuts and Pickles, were found and loved fiercely by Charlotte.
