Doggy Doo changing hands
BONNERS FERRY — Those people who choose to own cats and dogs know that just like their owners, a good spa and haircut makes the day bright, and one comes out looking and feeling refreshed. Taking pets to the groomer is also healthy for them, they get a bath and a haircut, and nails trimmed.
Keeping a dogs nails trimmed is important because having long nails, where they touch the floor, not only is uncomfortable for the dog, but it can lead to long term effects such as splaying of the feet. They can also split, tear, or curve and everytime the dog steps, they may poke them in the pad in some cases.
Many groomers offer a de-shedding regime which is a bath, a treatment, and lots of brushing to remove as much of the dead hair as possible, so your home and furniture are hair free.
Shaya Raven Hall saw the need that Boundary County had for a dog and cat groomer and boarding service, so she used her expertise to open Doggy Doo.
After moving to a larger location than the original shop by The Rusty Moose, now occupied by Green River Tattoo, to its current location near the Boundary County Courthouse, her business continued to grow. With the increasing amount of pets on the schedule, even before moving, Hall hired assistants, one of which was Jamie Twining about three years ago.
“I met Hall through mutual friends. They had mentioned she needed help, and I’ve been working here ever since,” said Twining.
“One day, Hall approached me and asked me if I had ever thought of owning a business? My response was ‘yes’, I have, quite a few times,” said Twining. “Then she told me about her plans to sell Doggy Doo, and I decided to buy it.”
With the final preparations in the works, they plan to make the official switch Jan. 1, 2018.
“All the prices will be the same,” said Twining. “We have in-home boarding right now, but when the transition happens, we probably won’t have it back up and running until about April 2018. We do in shop boarding, dog and cat grooming, and those features will remain.”
In home boarding is where pet owners hire someone to go to their home and tend to their pets while they are away. In home boarding keeps the pets in their comfort zone instead of going to a kennel, which reduces the stress especially when the pet isn’t normally taken to a boarding kennel.
Hall has decided to move her family in order to further her schooling at Lewis and Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, studying to be a paramedic.
“I am so terribly sad to leave Bonners Ferry and especially the pups, kitties, and human owners,” stated Hall. “Thank you guys so much for your support, I sure do appreciate it. I know that being a paramedic will do well for me as I will do well for the medical side.”
“To say farewell brings me so much pain and happiness all at the same time. It’s the true definition of bitterly sweet, I will miss all of my customers the four-legged and the two so much,” exclaimed Hall. “Some of you have been with me for the long-haul and some just for the short, but everyone has meant so much to me and has let me grow as a person as well. Everyone has become my own little family.”
Hall loves hearing about all of the customers stories and adventures, and they always put a smile on her face in return.
“I have never thought that I could love and enjoy so many people so much. It has been an absolute privilege to work with all of your animals the good the bad and the hairy,” said Hall. “Every single one of you will never be forgotten and will be so incredibly missed by me.”
Hall is excited to hand the torch down to Jamie, knowing she will love and adore the customers, people and pets alike, just as much as she does.
“Farewell Doggy Doo family, thank you all so so much!” said Hall.
As the ladies prepare to meet a new chapter in their lives, they are excited to see customers, both new and existing, and their fur babies.
