Italian Anise Knots

This is an all-time family favorite in the Italian community and if you love the flavor of anise, as I do, you will also enjoy these.

4 cups flour, sifted

3 1/2 tsp baking powder

pinch of salt

Sift all the ingredients together

1/4 lb. softened butter

1 cup sugar

4 eggs

3/4 oz. of bottle anise extract

1/2 tsp vanilla

In a mixer beat softened butter and sugar; add eggs, anise, and vanilla. Add flour mixture slowly until well mixed. Place on a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes. Grab a small piece of dough and roll so it looks like a pencil. Shape in a knot. Place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees, 8 minutes until lightly browned on the bottom. You can dust them with powdered sugar.
