BONNERS FERRY — On Thursday, Dec. 14, the Lady Badgers traveled to St. Maries and lost 57-45, suffering their first loss of the season. The Badgers beat St. Maries in their first game of the season, 53-42.

“St. Maries played much better defensively this game,” said coach Travis Hinthorn. “We had an injury and foul trouble and struggled offensively late in the second half. Overcoming adversity is part of the game.”

The Badgers led 28-23 at halftime but were outscored 34-17 in the second half.

Wallace Miners at Bonners Ferry, scheduled for Friday, Dec. 15, was postponed due to poor road conditions. It has been rescheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20.

The Lady Badgers travelled to Post Falls Middle School on Saturday, Dec 16, to play Genesis Preparatory Academy. It was the Badgers’ sixth road game in a row. This time the Badgers had a decisive third quarter, outscoring the Jaguars 19-7 to pull away for a final score of 61-37.

Kadi Bateman had another explosive offensive game leading the Badgers with 23 points. Bateman made three 3-pointers, two of which were made in dramatic fashion. Bateman hit a runner from beyond half court to beat the buzzer and buried a 25 footer to beat the third quarter buzzer as well. She also recorded six steals which led to uncontested layins.

Miranda Wenk recorded another double double with 14 points to go along with her 14 rebounds. Jerzie Pluid also had double figures in each with 10 points and 14 rebounds also.

“This was Jerzie’s best game on the season, she just keeps getting better every game,” said Hinthorn. “Jerzie Pluid and Miranda Wenk did a great job battling their size. They start a 6-foot-4 girl and have 2 other starters listed at 6-2. We did a great job of getting their tall girl in foul trouble. She blocked a lot of shots early but we kept attacking and drew the fouls. Miranda also had a lot of courage to step in front of her to take a charge!”
