Meredith M. Farrens Tritt

Meredith M. Farrens Tritt, 85, passed away on Dec. 10, 2017. She was born Feb. 21, 1932, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Bill and Mildred Farrens. She was an only child for 10 years, until her sister, Norma Jean “Sally” came along.

The family moved several places in southwestern Washington, until landing in Bonners Ferry, Idaho in 1945. They worked hard farming and she remembered driving truck at an early age while the males were off to World War II. When she was in her mid teens, her family welcomed “Muffy” Fredrickson into the clan.

Music was an important part of her life, with her mom playing piano and the family singing. Playing clarinet and dancing were also some favorite pastimes.

In 1950, she graduated from high school and married Jim Tritt. Together they had six children, Steve, Norma, Marlene, Theresa and then the twins, Cara and Diane. Besides her role of homemaker, she served school lunches at Northside School and worked as a CNA in Bonners Ferry and Coeur d’Alene. Volunteer work included March of Dimes, Jayceettes, supporting her kids in activities such as Scouting and band, singing with the Methodist Church choir, Reach for Recovery, and Pink Lady at the hospital.

She was extremely thankful to be a breast cancer survivor of 20 years. Meredith loved to grow African violets and roses. She was a great cook and was famous for her green bean casserole in recent years.

Meredith was incredibly social and collected friends wherever she went, including her “family” at the Sarah Street Apartments, doctor’s offices, her pinochle group, and the stores she frequented.

She leaves behind her children, Steve (Teresa) Tritt, Norma (Bill) Moeller, Marlene (Gary) Lock, Theresa Tritt, Cara (Jeff) Urbaniak and Diane (Lonnie) Raaum; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and her sister Sally (Duane) Olson. Meredith leaves a legacy of love and loyalty to family, acceptance, passion for music, happiness and living simply within your means.

There will be a short memorial at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at Sarah Street Apartments, 9359 N. Government Way, Hayden, Idaho. There will be a graveside service during Easter weekend next year in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

The family wishes donations be made in her name to Hospice of North Idaho-Schneidmiller Hospice House.
