BFHS Wrestlers place at Riverside Classic

Bonners Ferry High School’s varsity wrestling squad traveled to Chattaroy, Wash. over the weekend to compete with a number of area schools in the Riverside Classic. While a few of Bonners Ferry’s wrestlers had the flu and were unable to compete, eight of them made the bus, and four of those eight placed in the top three of their respective weight classes.

Tyler Beazer, wrestling in the 113 lb. class, pinned Ethan Roman from Riverside (0:24) in the first round. Beazer then pinned Shane Mangis from Shadle Park (0:56 ) in the second round and won by decision against Michel Senteney from Kellogg (21-6) in the third round, but lost the final round by decision to Juddson Hall from Kellogg (8-2) to finish in second place.

Denton Eby, wrestling in the 126 lb. class, received a bye in the first round and pinned Jose Mercado from Chelan (1:15) in the second round. Eby then pinned Javier Mendoza from Chelan (0:31) in the third round and won by decision against Eric Lenz from St Maries (5-2) in the championship round to take first place.

Slater Copley, wrestling in the 132 lb. class, did not place after falling to Javier Pastor from Chelan (2:00) in the first round and losing by decision to Gabe Enriquez from North Central (9-8) in the consolation round.

Mason Eby, wrestling in the 138 lb. class, pinned Cole Roman from Riverside (0:31) in the first round. Eby then pinned Chris Rivard from Newport (0:24) in the second round, won the semifinal round by decision against Gunnar Van Riper from North Central (2-0), but lost the first place match by decision to Nathan Pratt from Riverside (8-6) to finish in second place.

Owen Vandecoevering, wrestling in the 138 lb. class, did not place. Vandecoevering pinned Shelby McIntosh from Lakeland (1:22) in the first round but was pinned by Nathan Pratt from Riverside (1:11) in the subsequent round. Vandecoevering then lost by decision to Collin Glass from Lakeland (9-7). Jesse Sandelin, wrestling in the 170 lb. class, received a bye in the first round and pinned Sage Zinni from Chelan (2:54) in the semifinal round. Sandelin then lost the first place match by decision to Skyler Gordon from Chelan (12-6) to finish in second place.

Ronney Craig, wrestling in the 285 lb. class, did not place. Craig was pinned by Johnnie Meksch from Lakeland (1:29) in the first round, received a bye in the second, and fell to Chris Hunt from Lakeland (2:26) in the consolation round.

The Badgers will travel to Post Falls this weekend to compete in the River City Duals.
