Horse and buggy town

Main Street has changed. You probably don’t remember when we were a “horse and buggy” town, but it is exciting to see how we have grown! Last week we shared a picture of the high school twirlers. Grace Schuon Ledit remembers these girls and places the group in about 1950. From left to right they are: Georgie Ann Bourassa, Nancy Kirkhoven, Doris Danquist, Edith Nieland, Teddy Baker and Trudell Lane. Linda MacDonald recognized Edith and tells us she is the daughter of Emery and Sylvia Nieland and granddaughter of Charles and Iva Olds. The Olds are Bonners Ferry pioneers. Linda also tells us that the picture was taken on the steps of the old high school. Thank you, ladies, for helping put names to history.

Your Boundary County Historical Society and Museum, 7229 Main, Bonners Ferry, Idaho sponsors this column. During the winter, the Museum is open Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To help maintain the buildings, a small entrance fee is requested. It is $2 per person or $5 per family. This Saturday, Jan. 14, another Spin-In will be taking place at the museum. Are you interested in the art of spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting or even tatting? Would you like to learn more?
