Betty (Elizabeth) Duvall Beck passed away on Jan. 2, 2017 at her home in Bonners Ferry surrounded by her family after a short illness. Betty was an only child born on Nov. 13, 1942 to Frances and Walter Duvall in San Diego. After graduating from Chula Vista High School in 1960, she began her working career at her mothers’ Junior Department Store. From there, she began working at Prudential Insurance Company, where she retired in 1967. One of her favorite hobbies at this time was participating on a bowling team. On New Year’s Eve 1962, she met her future husband of 54 years, Richard Felix Beck, who was on Christmas leave from the army. It was love at first sight for both Richard and Betty. They were married on Feb. 9, 1963 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in San Diego. On July 27, 1964, their first child Deborah Lynn was born. Betty and Richard purchased their first home shortly after in the fall of 1964 in Chula Vista, California. On August 21, 1967, Betty and Richard had a son: Michael Andrew Beck. At this time, Betty decided to be a stay-at-home mom while Richard operated and owned Beck’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. Betty was active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Little League and Girls Softball along with gardening, camping and decorating ostrich, emu and goose eggs.

In 1979, Betty owned and operated Cabrillo Mobile Lodge, a senior citizen mobile home park. There she helped many seniors that had no family to take care of them. In 2005, Betty and Richard moved to Naples, where they built their dream home in Highland Flats. Betty retired in 2007. She then enjoyed her family and friends. On more then one occasion, Betty mentioned how much she loved North Idaho and would never live in a big city again. She is preceded in death by her mother and father Frances Annie (Mavin) Duvall and Walter J. Duvall. She is survived by her husband Richard Felix Beck, daughter Deborah Lynn Luther (Bonners Ferry) and husband Raymond J. Luther, son Michael Andrew Beck (Bonners Ferry) and wife Gina (Quinones) Beck, and four grandchildren: Jesse Ray Luther, Travis Andrew Beck, Collin Richard Luther and Sarah Marie Beck. Services were held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Saturday, Jan. 7 with graveside services for family at Moravia Cemetery in Naples.
