It is great to be back in school today seeing all the smiling faces and high fives in the hallways. The midway point of the school year is approaching and the holidays are behind us. This month at VVES we continue to personalize education, recognize student achievement, and as always provide a safe, civil, and productive environment.

In December we celebrated the monthly character trait of generosity. It is my privilege to announce that the following students were named, Super Star Citizen of the Month:

Ezekiel Cornett, Christian Jurado, Journey Erickson, Bryn Griffiths, Madelynn Moore, Alex Jimenez, Carmen West, Emily Adams, Madisen Faulconer, Giuliana Abraham, Kaden DesRosiers, Stryder Liermann, Wyatt Raynor, Thomas Hoggan, Gabe Jackson, Sophie Morgen, and Kamen Nelson.

Please congratulate these wonderful students when you can!

Mrs. Petesch continues to challenge families to work out together by highlighting students in the Family Fitness Challenge. This month the winner is 3rd grader, Brooke Petesch and she received a brand new basketball. If you would like more information regarding the Family Fitness Challenge, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Petesch at the school.

The past two years VVES has participated in the Elks National Free Throw Shoot competition. The school winners for the 8 and 9 year olds were, Peyton Hinthorn and Taren Bateman. The 10 and 11 year old finalists were Sydney Hinthorn and Asher Williams. Great job to all of the shooters who participated!

With the inclement weather last week the 5th grade Leadership Team never really had the chance to complete the annual Fill the Bus food drive. Therefore, if you would still like to donate food please do so this week.

In addition, the 5th grade Leadership Team has begun a schoolwide mentorship program to build relationships, assist younger students in math and reading, and just create a positive culture emphasizing the need to give back to those around us. It is a great program and I am very proud of our 5th grade students for making it a priority within our building.
