January news from BFHS

| January 26, 2017 12:00 AM

Warm Holiday Greetings from Bonners Ferry High School. I would like to take this opportunity to reflect and share. Any position in education comes with its own unique amount of adversity, and my position as Principal at BFHS is no different. However, I can’t quantify the amount of support, feedback, and concern I have been given from this community in a respectful and appropriate manner. My hat is off to the students, teachers, parents, and community members for trusting me to hear them and being patient enough to allow me to “get it right.” We have made some improvements to the security of our building with some serious support from our Superintendent, Gary Pflueger, and our School Board Trustees.

Our Badger Family has made a very positive shift through intentional collaboration to facilitate ways that remind our students and our staff that we are a school family. Badger Awesome is showing itself through the efforts of our PBIS (positive behavior) team by reinforcing behaviors that promote success and a positive school climate. With the continued efforts of our students and our staff at BFHS, I am confident that our school will continue to progress and impress those willing to come see what we are doing here.

On the topic of impressing, I encourage all of you to attend the next extracurricular event you can. The band and choir Christmas concert were both a hit. It is noteworthy to mention that Leadership class and FFA collected some serious food for a couple different food drives for the community in November and December. Wrestling and Basketball are in full swing, and Mrs. Nix, Leadership Class, and Mr. Garner are working hard to find some suitable replacements for Moose Madness which has come to an end based on a mutual decision between school administration following last year’s competition and some reflection on the original intent of the event focusing on sportsmanship and fundraising. We had a good run with Moose Madness, and I am excited to see what new traditions our students begin while I am principal. Kudos to Mr. Knaggs for continuing to find ways to bring our Badger Family together; I hope they become tradition.

There are great things going on at BFHS, and I have not listed them all. Stay tuned for more on our academic success, our behavioral comparisons from last school year, and our programs that always have events coming up like Robotics, FFA, Leadership, Drama, Choir, Band, Basketball, Wrestling...the list goes on, so check our district calendar and come support our Badgers. To all of our students and staff, and all of you reading this, I wish you a safe and joyous Holiday Season. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and I will see you in 2017!

GO BADGERS!
